Mail sending fails  (United States)
I've installed the trial version of Bulk Emailer to evaluate (DNN 4.8.4) and sent a test message to 3 email addresses but the campaign says 'STATUS: FAILED'.

I'm fairly certain my SMTP settings are correct.  The SMTP settings on the DNN host Settings page test successfully.  DNN sends emails out to my users fine (ie registration), plus other 3rd party modules send out emails fine (catalook storefront).  My ISP (cablevision ny) provides the smtp server and allows 300 emails every 3 hours, and I'm only trying to send 3!

There doesn't seem to be any information why the campaign reports 'STATUS: FAILED'.  Is there any way to get more information?

I love this module, it is absolutely perfect for my needs and is straight forward to use and not over-laden with unnecessary functions. I hope somebody can help!

I should add that SMTP is configured for anonymous authentication and is *not* using SSL.  Also, my domain name is reversed dns-d to my hoster to allow outbound email.

Re: Mail sending fails  (Australia)
Try testing with another SMTP server. We have seen some strange things like this with spam filters that check outbound messages, like the IMF filter of Exchange Server.

Sometimes these filters like Authentication too, so try that. Let us know what you find out.

Re: Mail sending fails  (United States)
Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure what other SMTP server I can use.  Is there any way to get more information on the cause of the failure?  It would be good to have something specific to debug to avoid grasping at straws.

I had already looked through the KB and have double checked that my server name doesnt contain extra spaces or anything weird like that.  in DNN host settings, its set up as:

mail.optonline.net:25

pretty straight forward.

Are there logs somewhere that I'm unaware of that might shed some more light?

Is the email being sent to DNN user roles or an imported list?

Re: Mail sending fails  (United States)
neither.  i've put in 3 email addresses (1 is mine) in the 'also send' field.  no roles are checked and no imported list is being used.

Can you please try a new campeign to a DNN security role, like Administrators (ensuring that the admin account has a valid email address).

Re: Mail sending fails  (United States)
OK, I've done this. I've used the 'Test Users' role that all of my test DNN accounts belong to. They all have valid working emails.

Still the same problem, I'm afraid.  All statuses are 'Failed'.  Is there no way to determine what in particular failed or where?

The DNN host SMTP settings 'test' function gives specific errors when something isn't configured correctly, ie 'host not found', 'invalid response from host', etc.

I am encountering the same problems on a registered version of Bulk Emailer, after getting failed send responses on the trial version. That is worrying me, because I thougth it was some kind of limitation on a trial version.
Please someone post a reply about it.

I'm still wondering what access details you're referring to.  I am anxious to get this working, so if you could provide specifics I'd be happy to send them.

Thanks.
