[viewonline-here] Not Creating the File on the Server / Throw Error Exception  (United States) Modified By Jay on 3/1/2012 9:33:40 PM
Hello,

EDIT: Am using current version 45.6.10 with full license.  I have this module installed on two portals in the same DNN instance (version 06.01.03), licensed for both portals.  The viewonline worked when I initially tested it on the first portal when I installed it, but does not work when testing on the second portal.

I'm trying to create a campaign and use the [viewonline-here] option, but am having no luck.  I believe the module should be creating a file on the server in the \DesktopModules\BulkEmailer\ViewOnline directory for online viewing, but it is not doing so.  I have confirmed that the token link created is correct, but my server is throwing the following error when I click the link:

Error: is currently unavailable.DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at iwebs.Modules.BulkEmailer.ViewOnline.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

The event log is showing this error trace:

Can anyone assist on this?

Hello? Is anyone monitoring this forum?  I see 22 views and no responses, can anyone comment and shed light on the issue?

Now THAT is a great reply to a problem - the kind of thing that makes me want to take a closer look at the rest of your product offerings!
I will install and advise back ASAP on the result.  Thanks much for your help.

Okay, so I installed and sent a test message to myself via the campaign. BulkEmailer created in the \ViewOnline directory a directory for the images (in my case index number '16'), and created mht file 16.mht.  So, I thought all should be well.

Something strange occurred, however, in the creation of the image files.  Not all of them, but only some of them, the temp image files are all RED 'X' like the image could not be found but they are definitely there.  The email campaign file comes through perfect with all pictures embedded, so I'm not sure why BulkEmailer couldn't extract them when creating the ViewOnline document.

The images that showed up were all embedded .jpg files, and the ones not showing up were .png images...wondering if there is a problem there.

-Jay

[EDIT - I just noticed that the file being linked to in the campain email resides at \ViewOnline\16\preview-16.html.  If I point the browser instead at \ViewOnline\16.mht it shows up perfectly.  Not sure if BulkEmailer is just copying my source .mht file to the 16 directory to create the html preview file or not, but that file looks perfect.]

MHT and MHTML message format is a Microsoft format, and IE is the only browser that supports this format.

Are you using IE to view online?  (this is mentioned in the manual).

Re: [viewonline-here] Not Creating the File on the Server / Throw Error Exception  (United States)
I am aware that they are MS formats from the manual, and I am using IE9 to view them online.  Like I said, when I view the graphic files themselves in the directory they have been created by BulkEmailer as a red "X" graphic (it is not that they don't exist, but the graphic itself looks like a red X).  This only occurs for SOME of the pictures, specifically the ones that were originally dropped into MS Word as .png files, whereas the ones put in the original Word document as .jpg show up fine.

If you'd like, I can zip up the original .mhtml file, the /ViewOnline directory with all files, and send them to you.  If that would be helpful to diagnose, please reply here with a direct email address, thanks.

Perhaps it is time to close this thread and begin a new one for this issue.

Jay

I get now what you are talking about. The referenced URL for the graphic is not being transposed correctly to the view online reference. I will see what we can see.

One more thing, have you tried saving the word document as .mht and sending that / testing that. Rather than uploading the word document and letting BE transpose it for sending?

Re: [viewonline-here] Not Creating the File on the Server / Throw Error Exception  (United States)
I do create the file in Word as docx, then I Save As a "Single File Web Page" .mht document.  I then upload the .mht to the BulkEmailer.  I never send the word document up to the server...

We tested and cannot recreate the issue.

One option for you would be to ensure that you don't paste relative image into word, but paste as image. This would ensure that the image is not referencing an external source and is updated to the word document and sent as an attached image.

Please provide me with a valid send-to email address and I will forward both the source docx and mhtml files to you.  Then you can upload them to a test server on your end and tell me if the issue occurs on your server, thus resolving whether it is inherint to the mhtml file or my server.  Thanks.

Re: [viewonline-here] Not Creating the File on the Server / Throw Error Exception  (Australia)
We did a test using the .docx document directly. We did not save as .mht first, and found that it worked just fine.

We suggest that you send the word document directly.
