Adding an item...then its gone... (United States)

I am able to get to the add an item form, I hit update and go back to the main page of the announcement module and my newly added item is not there.
Please help. Thanks!

Not only is this happening, none of my settings are taking either -- I'm trying to change the skin and have the page box at the bottom. This is extremely odd. Can someone help me please?

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Typical question:
- What version of DNN are you running?
- Is this after an upgrade or fresh install?
- What sorting option from the sorting menu are you using for your announcements?

answer those, see if its anything obvious and we'll go from there.
